Men's Volley BallHurricanes Men's Volleyball: Host STU this Weekend
Friday, January 27, 2012

The undefeated men (7-0) will hope to keep their winning ways going as they know this weekend's two matches against Tommies (4-4) could go a long way in solidifying a crucial 1st place going into the championships in February.
Coach Joe Ryan sees the opportunity but is caution of what his team needs to do in order to be successful "We are coming off a successful match last weekend against STU. While I feel we can hold our own offensively with teams, I feel we have work to do defensively at the net and on our serving game. This is something that we will be working on over the next couple of days to correct."
Canes player Brandon Boyce echoes Coach Ryan's comments "This weekend against STU we are expecting two very tough matches. We played them last weekend, and we know what to expect, a very talented team. Everyone on our team has to be on top of their game to come out with a victory this weekend"
The Canes will hit the floor on Saturday starting at 8 PM again on Sunday 2 PM both matches against STU and are played at the Community Centre for Engagement on Holland College Prince of Wales Campus.

Men's BasketballHurricanes Men's Basketball on the road again facing NSAC, MTA
Friday, January 27, 2012

Alex MacLeod, Men's Basketball
The Holland Hurricanes men's and women's basketball teams will be in Truro Saturday afternoon to face the NSAC Rams with games at 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men). Sunday, the teams will take-on the MTA Mounties with games in Sackville starting again at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Men's Preview
The men's basketball team enters the weekend after a road-split last weekend, losing to STU before hammering UNBSJ. At 7-3 on the season, the men are currently in third place.
The ‘Canes beat NSAC handily early in the season, but the Rams added several players at Christmas and will present a much bigger challenge this time around. The Mounties always present a tough test, especially on their home-court.
Head Coach George Morrison is well-aware that NSAC can't be taken lightly.
"Their results of late are far different than their results before Christmas. They have added a couple of key pieces and have been challenging everyone they play. This is a game we need to win and we definitely cannot take them lightly," commented Morrison.
He also added, "Our focus right now is NSAC. Once that game is over we will focus on how we are going to beat MTA. They always play well at home and I don't think there is any question, that game will be a battle."

Hurricanes Athletes of the weekHurricanes Athletes of the Week

Hurricanes women's hockey player Candace Arsenault and men's volleyball player Adam Foy has been selected as this week's Hurricanes athletes of the week.
Candace Arsenault plays forward with the canes hockey team and was instrumental in the canes successful weekend as they played host to a six team intercollegiate women's hockey challenge series on Saturday and Sunday at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. Arsenault led the Canes to a successful record of two wins, a tie and one loss over the weekend and was a key component in the Canes offensive threat capping off two goals and helping generate numerous scoring opportunities throughout the tournament.
Arsenault is a first year student of the Dental Assisting program at Holland College and resides from Dalhousie, NB.
Adam Foy is a resident of Cornwall (PE) and is in his first year of the Environmental Applied Science Technology and plays the role of setter with the Canes volleyball team.
In his rookie season with the team Adam is starting to understand the role of setter a little more every day, and his improvements are helping out his team immensely. This was evident this past weekend as Foy led his team in assists solidifying the Canes two important road wins over STU and UNBSJ on the weekend and keeping the Canes undefeated streak intact. Adam was also recognized for his efforts on Sunday in the match against UNBSJ where he was selected as the player of the game.
